shoulder care boise

Shoulder injuries are often caused by athletic activities that involve repetitive or excessive overhead motions. Typically, we see this in activities like tennis, baseball, softball, weightlifting, or swimming. Three common shoulder sports related injuries are Rotator Cuff Injuries, Shoulder Instability, and SLAP Tears.

elbow care boise

Elbow pain can greatly interfere with daily life. Your elbow joint is comprised of three bones. These bones are connected by muscle, ligaments and tendons that form the elbow joint. There are several conditions that can cause elbow pain including sprains & strains, arthritis, fracture, dislocations, inflammation, bursitis or tennis elbow.

hip care boise

The hip is responsible for supporting the majority of the body's weight. It is critical to have a well functioning hip to walk, run, jump and perform most daily activities. Dr. Gustavel is widely regarded as Idaho's top expert in hip arthroscopy.

knee care boise

Each year, over 11 million Americans go to the doctor for knee pain. The knee is the most operated on joint by orthopedic surgeons.

sports medicine

In sports medicine, we treat injuries typically occurring during physical fitness or sports-related activities. A sports medicine physician, like Dr. Gustavel, has extensive specialized training in both the treatment and prevention of athletic injuries—including both surgical and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

At Gustavel Orthopedics, we may utilize substances called orthobiologics. Grafts from patients or with man-made materials are used to assist in the healing process of broken bones. These processes are proven to shorten healing times and get patients back to normal life quicker and with less pain.

Most commonly, bone fractures happen in three ways: trauma, overuse, or diseases that weaken the bone. The majority of bone fractures, however, are caused by falls or accidents. There are several types of fractures, and symptoms commonly include pain, swelling, bruising, or even open wounds. Treatment options for bone fractures at Gustavel Orthopedics include both surgical as well as non-invasive options.

Medical imaging is the process of creating visual images of the interior of a body for medical intervention. At Gustavel Orthopedics, we have on-site x-ray & ultrasound equipment to better serve our patients with quick clinical analysis and treatment options.

foot care boise

Stress fractures in the foot are most often caused by intensity of a physical activity such as running and jumping. However, nonathletic fractures can also occur with a sudden increase in an activity. If you think you have a fracture in your foot, ignoring the pain can have serious consequences such as the bone breaking completely.

ankle care boise

Three bones make up the ankle joint: the Tibia, Fibula & Talus. Typically, an ankle fracture is caused by twisting or rolling your ankle, tripping or falling during an activity or some other accident. Depending on severity of the injury, our treatment plans can include surgical repair options as well as non-surgical and non-invasive treatment.

hand wrist care boise

Finger, hand & wrist fractures can be more severe than others including non-displaced and displaced breaks. The wrist is formed by two bones, the radius and the ulna and eight small carpal bones. Typically, wrist fractures occur during a fall with an outstretched hand or some other type of trauma.

joint replacement boise

Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure where parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a prosthesis, typically made of metal, plastic or ceramic. Hip and knee replacements are the most commonly performed surgery.
